MOCCASIN POINT WATER ACCESS DOCKS
AMI is currently providing the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MnDNR) with Construction Documents (CD’s) for the redevelopment of a water access point on Lake Vermilion in Minnesota. The redevelopment will include one (1) removable dock with anchorage system, two (2) permanent dock structures with removable finger piers, and one (1) fixed dock or pier structure near an existing boat launch.
AMI performed an initial assessment of the site, which included geotechnical exploration and topographic & hydrographic surveys. The geotechnical exploration determined the depth to bedrock as well as design parameters for the soil and bedrock. The topographic and hydrographic surveys determined the location of underground utilities, the shoreline and lake bottom characteristics by utilizing GPS equipment.
AMI presented the results of the initial to the MnDNR as well as dock system and pier options. AMI provide costs estimations, design alternatives and the advantages & disadvantages of each system. Once the final dock system and layout was determined, AMI provided preliminary design for the docks and piers at 50% completion with a cost estimate and structural calculations. Once the preliminary design has been reviewed, AMI will incorporate the DNR’s comments and produce a final design at 95% completion.
AMI will finalize the reports and calculations of the design and completed construction plans signed by a Professional Engineer licensed in Minnesota. The plans and specifications will be ready for public bidding once the project received final approval from the MnDNR.
