AMI Consulting Engineers worked with sister company Nordic Group to restore 400 feet of natural ravine and another 300 feet of slope/shoreline repairs for the Encampment Forest Association (EFA).

The ravine along the EFA Lodge suffered severe erosion due to flooding that caused undercutting of the channel slopes and washout of the existing soil. Cabins also experienced erosion of their clay and rock bluffs due to heavy runoff and wave induced erosion. Each project area had its own unique challenges, topography changes, and critical design conditions. Design solutions for these projects consisted of stone armoring, rock bolting of vertical ledge rock faces with colored shotcrete facing, turf reinforcement mats with percussion anchors for slope stability, native vegetation, and colored concrete retaining walls.

AMI provide complete marine civil engineering services. This included a review of historical storm conditions at the EFA to determine the appropriate worst case design scenarios. Each project area was surveyed, permitted and had complete and tailored construction documents created. AMI performed special inspections to review the construction progress and document any installation errors.

Nordic provided all civil construction services, including installing slope stabilization mats, native grasses, plugs, shrubs and trees along the slope for additional protection, an armor stone revetment, and a draintile system at the top of the slope to capture and direct runoff.

Additional work for the association included river mouth restoration, rock steps built into the armor stone revetments for continued beach access, switchback trails with overlook sitting areas, and new native tree plantings.
