ANGRY TROUT CAFE SHORELINE PROTECTION ON LAKE SUPERIOR

AMI performed topographic and drone surveys for a restaurant that was experiencing wave overtopping of the existing shoreline stone which was damaging the siding and decking. Due to higher water levels, the existing stone design was insufficient. The owner wanted a design that catered to the aesthetics of the property and North Shore while fitting inside his budget. Proposed designs include a concrete retaining wall up to the deck elevation with a bull nose, bin wall or timber cribbing to replace the existing deck, and new armor stone. Wave and ice forces were calculated using the topographic and local bathymetric data. This data was applied in the design of the 60 ft of armor stone layout and required stone sizing. AMI completed all Army Corps of Engineers, DNR, and County permitting upon Owners’ final selection. Final design drawings, construction drawings and construction estimates for the Owner were provided along with special inspections during the construction of the armor stone revetment. The special inspections included photos to document the construction progress and note any errors to be fixed by the contractor.
