Innovating Beneath the Surface: Revitalizing Mount Rushmore's Water Storage Tanks

Remember those excruciating backtrail hiking trips your parents took you on? The ones where you had to carry loads and loads of equipment, food, and water? That is what AMI’s engineer-divers had to do for safe access to Mount Rushmore’s remote underground water storage tanks.

AMI conducted coating inspections of the aging tanks’ interior walls. By utilizing divers, the three reservoirs with a total capacity of 700,000 gallons did not need to be drained and the park utilities remained in service during the peak tourist season.

AMI’s team of professionals were able to design a new interior coating system for the storage tanks, uphold the quality of the park’s water supply, and thanks to AMI’s unique service offering of marine engineering, commercial diving, and NACE coating specialists, the park did not have to close to complete the work.
